Grand Slam 2008 Cross Country Sundays at 1:30pm, September 7th through October 19th. Kennekuk Cove County Park's Horsheshoe Pond (except September 28th, which is at The Wild Wild Wilderness at Kickapoo) Event Coordinator: John Linville 217.446.0037 or krr-xc-comast.net Run or walk 1, 2, 3.29 (Howl Loop) or 7.1 (Mingo Loop) miles - except for the weekend of September 28th when we combine the event with The Wild Wild Wilderness. We'll have cookouts every week, ribbons for finishers, and trophies/awards at the last event, October 19th, when we'll have a cookout "Kennekuk Style" with Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken. Allerton Park Trail Run (Not a KRR Event) Sunday, 27 October, 2007 Robert Allerton Park in Monticello, IL An event hosted by our central Illinois running buddies, The Second Wind Running Club. Backpack Trail - KRR Members Only Saturday, November 29, 2007 at 9am or 10am at Forest Glen County Preserve The most challenging course in the local area - and you get to choose your distance of either 4.5 or 11 miles. Post-run party at The Halfway Inn starts at 1:00pm. Mountain Goat Hill Runs/Walk Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 10:30am Kickapoo State Recreation Area 5K Non-Competitive Walk 15K and 10K Hill Runs Toughest 15K in Illinois & Indiana Race Director: Deb Reddy 217.431.4243 (evenings) A great way to get in some hill training. Clinton Lake 30 Mile Trail Run (Not a KRR Event) Saturday, March 28, 2008 at 8am North fork of Clinton Lake near DeWitt, IL An event hosted by our central Illinois running buddies, The Second Wind Running Club. Buffalo Trail Run & Walk (Not a KRR Event) Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 8am Lake of the Woods Park in Mahomet, IL An event hosted by our central Illinois running buddies, The Second Wind Running Club, complete race details of the 5 mile run or 2 mile walk are on their website here. Memorial Day 5K Monday, May 25, 2008 at 9am On the campus of the Veteran's Administration Illiana Healthcare System at 1900 East Main Street, Danville, IL. A flat, two-loop 5K course on paved trails of the wooded campus of the local VA Hospital. Summer Fun Runs/Walks Wednesday, June 3rd thru August 5th (no event on July 1st) at 6:15 pm. Kickapoo State Recreation Area Cross Country Course Meet at the Meadow Shelter near Clear Pond Host: Mary Grider 217.443.6272(evenings) Weekly 1 mile, 2 mile, and 3 mile run/walks. Entry is free with ribbons or medals to all finisher - an every night is a cookout night! Lake Mingo Trail Run Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 9am Kennekuk Cove County Park Age Group & Weight Divisions Race Director: Greg Brant Sponsors: Jocko's Pizza and Pia's Restaurant 7.1 Miles of challenging trails circling Lake Mingo. Grand Slam Event #3 of the 2009 season. Clear Pond & Picnic - KRR Members Only Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 9am For the benefit of Champaign & Vermilion County Humane Societies Kickapoo State Park. Officially a five hour running event, start and stop anytime you'd like between 9am and 2pm, running the most challenging three mile loop in the Midwest to benefit the Humane Societies of Champaign and Vermilion Counties. And of course we'll have the usual Kennekuk party - firing up the grill at at 1:30 with hot dogs, brats, polish sausage & veggie dogs - and beer from Orange & Blue. Great prizes too! Women's Training Program Thursdays, May 14 through July 9, 6pm to 7pm Kickapoo State Recreation Area at the Ironwood Shelter (near the Cross Country Course) Host: Kathy Read 217.351.7834 (evenings) The weekly women only sessions will include interval, hill and trail running in addition to core and strength training.
The Howl at the Moon 8 Hour Run/Walk The largest timed ultra in the United States, The Howl at the Moon is held at Kennekuk Cove County Park on a 3.29 mile loop with excellent support from Kennekuk's outstanding volunteers. Do as little or as much as you can. A perfect event for your first Ultra. Post-race party with food, drink, prizes & music.
